World Rugby Standards: Adaptable to Any Context

We use World Rugby Grassroots standards (including Rugby Ready) and SA Rugby guidelines, providing guidance on how to adapt them to local resources:

    • Injury Prevention & Safety (BokSmart + Rugby Ready): Focus on safe contact techniques, neck/spine stability, concussion protocols (Recognise & Remove), and progressive player development — fully aligned with current SA Rugby policy (non-contact Tag Rugby and SA U8 T1 Rugby for U8 and below, with progressive contact from U9). Adaptable for grass fields, turf, or indoor facilities.
    • Safe Participation & Safeguarding: “Duty of Care” and “Recognise & Remove” protocols designed to meet strict child safety laws while remaining practical for school environments.
    • Age-Grade Umpiring (Match Management): A modular framework for primary school officiating — from Tag Rugby (modified non-contact) through to standard U12 laws with appropriate contact progression.
    • Safeguarding & Child Protection (UNICEF Aligned): Ensuring child protection compliance and fostering an inclusive environment in any jurisdiction.

Our Philosophy: “The Love of the Game”

For U6–U12, we prioritise the “Active Start” and “Fundamentals” phases:

  • Physical Literacy: Developing agility, balance, and coordination (ABC) through rugby-specific movement and modified games.
  • Inclusion: Ensuring every child, regardless of size or skill level, gets equal game time and coaching attention.
  • Character Building: Teaching World Rugby’s core values: Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline, and Respect.
  • Gender Equality & Inclusion: Strong alignment with UN SDG 5, ensuring equal coaching quality and resource allocation for girls and boys’ rugby.
